PMBA Business Analytics Courses and Career Pathways

PMBA Program Business Analytics Courses and Future Career Paths 

Students in the Professional MBA program wishing to study business analytics are advised to consider how their studies fit into one of the three main career areas in analytics: Operations, Marketing, or Finance.

The Operations pathway focuses on supply chain forecasting, inventory management, reducing costs, and optimizing processes and is most helpful for careers in transport and logistics, food and beverage, chemical, and energy and utilities.

The Finance pathway focuses on using data to identify business opportunities, evaluate risk, or make investment recommendations. Careers in the finance pathway can be at banks, insurance companies, or business companies.

The Marketing pathway focuses on optimizing marketing campaigns, market research, and/or forecasting marketing and sales trends. Careers in this path can be found in business companies and consulting firms.

In addition to the business analytics concentration electives listed below, students should consider taking electives in the related domain that they plan to work in such as MGT 231, 252, 258, 253, and 249.

 

Business Analytics Concentration

To earn a business analytics concentration, students need to complete five qualifying courses consisting of two required and three elective courses:
 

MGT 251: Marketing Analytics

MGT 256: Business Analytics for Management
 

Elective Courses:

MGT 219: Spreadsheet Modeling for Decision Making

MGT 230: Databases for Management

MGT 233: Marketing Research

MGT 239: Simulation for Business

MGT 267: Applied Business Forecasting


 

For students who would like to pursue business analytics roles in the field of OPERATIONS & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT, the following courses are recommended: 

MGT 219: Spreadsheet Modeling for Decision Making

MGT 239: Simulation for Business

MGT 267: Applied Business Forecasting
 

For students who would like to pursue business analytics roles in the field of FINANCE, the following courses are recommended: 

MGT 219: Spreadsheet Modeling for Decision Making

MGT 230: Databases for Management

MGT 267: Applied Business Forecasting
 

For students who would like to pursue business analytics roles in the field of MARKETING, the following courses are recommended:
