Robin Chou Named Assoc. Dean at National Chengchi University

Robin K. Chou, Distinguished  Professor of Finance, was named  Associate Dean for Research at College of Commerce, National  Chengchi University (NCCU).

Dr. Chou’s academic research has focused on investments, market microstructure, and behavioral finance. His work has been widely published in renowned international journals, establishing him as a recognized scholar in the field of finance. Over the course of his career, he has examined critical questions that influence both theoretical understanding and practical application in global markets. Research areas explored by Professor Chou include the efficiency of market structure designs, the effect of market liberalization on emerging and developed economies, the trading behavior and biases of different trader types, and how investor sentiment affects stock returns. These studies shed light on how markets operate under different conditions and how human psychology and decision-making can influence outcomes in complex financial systems.

Professor Chou’s teaching career reflects both breadth and depth. He taught previously at Yuan Ze University and National Central University (NCU), and since 2010 he has been teaching at National Chengchi University (NCCU). His long-term commitment to NCCU has enabled him to mentor countless students who have gone on to succeed in both academia and industry. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from NCCU, an MBA degree from the University of California, Riverside, and a doctoral degree from the University of Iowa. His educational background provided him with an international perspective, blending experiences in Asia and the United States. At NCCU, his excellence has been consistently recognized. He received the Outstanding Research Award from 2012 through 2016, the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2014 and 2015, and the Outstanding Scholar Award from the Taiwan Ministry of Science and Technology from 2012 through 2016. These honors underscore his ability to contribute both groundbreaking research and impactful teaching.

In addition to his academic research and teaching, Prof. Chou is an experienced academic administrator. He has served as the Chair of Finance Departments at both NCU and NCCU, demonstrating his leadership and ability to guide academic programs. Beginning in August 2017, he was appointed Associate Dean for Research at the College of Commerce, NCCU, an institution accredited by both EQUIS and AACSB. In this role, Prof. Chou initiated a strategic research advancement program aimed at forming several research focus groups within the college. His goal has been to develop two to three research areas that have the potential to eventually rank among the top in their respective disciplines. This effort reflects his long-term vision for advancing the reputation of the college while fostering collaborative scholarship.

His Experience at UCR Business’s AGSM:

As an international student who had just arrived in the U.S., Dr. Chou truly appreciated AGSM for providing a friendly, internationally oriented environment. This welcoming atmosphere enabled him to adapt to his new academic life effortlessly. He majored in Accounting and Finance and successfully passed the CPA exam on his first try, which he credited to the rigorous academic training he received at AGSM. Reflecting on his time in Riverside, Dr. Chou said, “Riverside is a nice place to live, which offers all the large city perks with a small town charm.” The support and opportunities available to him at UCR not only shaped his academic and professional journey but also left lasting personal impressions. He formed close friendships at the UCR School of Business, many of which he continues to maintain to this day. These relationships, combined with his professional achievements, illustrate the deep and ongoing connection he has with AGSM and the broader UCR community.
