Change Your Major to Business Administration
The major in business administration at UC Riverside is unique in that it is a junior/senior program. The admissions criterion to declare the major depends on your current major and type of admission to UCR (freshmen or transfer).
Students fall into one of the following categories, each with different requirements for application to the business administration major:

Pre-Business Students
Pre-Business Students
Students who were admitted to UCR as a freshman with pre-business as their declared major are eligible to apply to the business administration major.
For students who enter UCR as freshmen and are interested in declaring business administration as their major, it is recommended that they complete the Pre-Business Program during their freshmen and sophomore year.
To join the Pre-Business Program, students must meet with an academic advisor in the Pre-Business Program offices at 3400 HMNSS. More information on the program can be found here.

Applying to the Business Administration Major
In order to apply to the business administration major:
1) All of the following business prerequisites must be completed with a minimum 2.5 GPA:
- BUS 10: Intro to Business
- BUS 20: Financial Accounting & Reporting
- CS 8: Intro to Computing
- ECON 2: Intro to Macroeconomics
- ECON 3: Intro to Microeconomics
- ECON 102 (Microeconomic Theory)
OR
- ECON 103: Macroeconomic Theory
- MATH 22: Calculus for Business
- STAT 48: Statistics for Business
2) All breadth requirements must be completed (with the exception of ENGL 1C and foreign language, which must be completed by graduation).
3) A student must have a UCR cumulative GPA of at least 2.7.
4) A student must have a 2.0 GPA or higher in any attempted upper‐division courses.
5) A student must be admitted to the major by the time they reach 120 units.
Students must also attend a mandatory application workshop during the quarter in which they will complete all business administration major eligibility requirements.

Undeclared & Other Majors
Undeclared and Other Majors
Students admitted as freshmen who are undeclared at UCR or transitioning from another major on campus are eligible to apply to the business administration major. For students in the undeclared or other major categories who are interested in switching to the business administration major, the following requirements must be completed:

Transfer Students
Transfer Students
Transfer students admitted to UCR in a major other than business administration (not including Business Preparation transfer students) may apply to the business administration major, if they were admissible to BSAD at the time of admission to UCR.
Transfer students that were placed into Business Preparation should contact a School of Business advisor directly.
If a student does not meet the Business admission criteria, at time of transfer, the student will not be permitted to change into the business administration major at any point. If you are unsure, please view are admission criteria and contact a School of Business Advisor.

Meet with an Advisor
Schedule an appointment with an advisor in the Undergraduate Business Programs office in Olmsted Hall or virtual to confirm the requirements you must meet to stay on track as a Business Administration major.
Attend an Application Workshop
Students who are Pre-Business, undeclared, or have declared a major other than business that are interested in a major change to Business Administration or a Business minor are recommend to watch our online major workshop videos to better understand the admission criteria to declare a major or minor in Business.
Join the Pre-Business Program
