Fifteen Years of Excellence: UCR Business MBA Teams Capture Top Honors at the 2026 International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition

The UCR School of Business continued a remarkable tradition of excellence at the April2026 International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition (ICBSC), marking its 15th consecutive year of participation and one of its strongest performances to date.

Led by faculty advisor Dr. Sean Jasso, UCR’s two MBA teams earned Best Overall Performance in both of their competitive worlds, distinguishing themselves among teams from universities across the country in one of the nation’s premier strategy and business simulation competitions.

Selection for the competition begins each December through a highly competitive process. The chosen MBA students begin preparation and competition in January, engaging virtually over several months in an immersive business simulation environment. Teams assume full executive responsibility for managing a company across every major business function including marketing, operations, production planning, sales strategy, pricing, human resources, finance, and accounting making complex strategic decisions in real time while competing against peer institutions.

The competition culminates in Anaheim with an intensive, in-person final round where teams present their strategic outcomes, financial performance, business documentation, and executive presentations to judges serving as corporate boards of directors.

Among the accomplishments, one UCR MBA team additionally earned Second Place in Business Documents and Second Place in Board Presentation.

Beyond competition results, the experience develops the capabilities that define modern business leadership: competitiveness, confidence under pressure, STEM readiness, analytical rigor, strategic thinking, and the ability to make integrated decisions in uncertain environments.

This vital experiential learning opportunity is supported by the school’s leadership and through sponsorship and fundraising efforts.
